Ship's Passing

SHIP'S PASSING is a dating sim about non-normative intimacies - relationships that fall outside of the (heterosexual, monogamous, etc.) norm.

Jaycee Gonzaga is on a cruise! Having just won a ticket in a cereal box sweepstakes, they have the grand fortune of getting to relax on a nice Capybara-themed cruise ship for two weeks...alone.

Join Jaycee on their vacation as they meet all the colorful personalities on the ship, and try to figure out why they decided to surround themselves with strangers for 14 days straight. Fall in love, make some friends, or just make some memories!

This demo was developed as part of our undergraduate thesis at Ateneo de Manila University. We would like to thank DISCS, our lovely playtesters, Ma'am Didith, Sir Hidde, and Sir Jayzon for guiding us in the development of this game.

Some of the lovely personalities you'll  meet in this game:

Jaycee Gonzaga (they/them)
A freelance artist, a gamer, and a bit of a mess. With their 30th birthday coming up, their family's incessant comments about love and relationships have reached a breaking point - especially since Jaycee's never even dated anyone before. 

Jaycee has never spent that much time on their own before. While they have a lot of solitary hobbies, they've never put much stock into being alone. So why did they agree to 14 days of a solo vacation? And when is their mom going to stop calling them about getting married? Maybe they'll figure it out between buffets and sunbathing sessions.

Miggy Magalang (he/him)
A popular film actor who specializes in action movies, Miggy is no stranger to the spotlight. While he loves the attention, the scrutiny takes it toll, and so he gets on the cruise hoping for two weeks of peace and quiet - at least as much peace and quiet as the Miggy himself is able to muster.

Will Jaycee learn to rein him in, or will they embrace the chaos? Is that even an option with a powerful force like Miggy Magalang?

Kuy Dimaculangan (he/they)
A mysterious presence on the ship, Kuy likes to keep to himself. An indie film writer and director, he seems content to stay in the sidelines and let other people enjoy the limelight. His quiet, subtle demeanor is a fun contrast to the chaotic Miggy, whom he always seems to be around.

It seems like Kuy prefers to take some time before opening up, but Jaycee is not afraid of a little patience. What they're not used to is being the more proactive presence in a relationship - will they get over their own awkwardness and reach out?

Reyna Valencia (she/they)
A striking presence and an accomplished artist to boot, Reyna seems to have it all together. Except...why has she been stuck on her current project for months on end? Easel and paints in hand, she hopes to figure out the answer on the cruise, and finally find the right inspiration.

Jaycee, being an artist themselves, is no stranger to art block. Nor to trying to look put together. Perhaps the two could bond on their love for the craft - or learn to put their walls down together.

Edgar Nepomuceno (he/they)
Edgar is a portrait photographer and a fashion aficionado. Having come onboard to judge an on-ship costume contest, Edgar's mostly here to do his job and have some fun. His bright, charismatic demeanor shines right through his darkly-colored outfits, dazzling everyone who encounters it.

Jaycee has never seen a more impressive visage in their life. Not particularly well-versed in fashion and only ever decked out in the trademark hoodie-and-beanie, Edgar's style and finesse is almost otherworldly to them. But...he seems interested in them somehow! If only Jaycee could see it.

Gelo Yap (he/she)
Gelo is the cruise ship's swiss army knife. You'll see her manning the dining hall one second, then hosting a pool Zumba session the next. With her family being involved in the ship's operation, Gelo likes to lend a hand wherever possible. Is it a lot? Probably. But if noboby else is going to don a mermaid suit and entertain the kids onboard, then dammit Gelo will!

Gelo is maybe the friendliest person Jaycee has ever met. Within five minutes, she'll have charmed every person in within striking distance and scheduled a brunch with them the next morning. So it's no surprise that they've taken a liking to Jaycee as well. But getting to know someone as busy as Gelo can be hard at times - and Jaycee can start to see the cracks in the veneer. Will they manage to convince Gelo to take a break for once?
